[Lynelle Briggs]

Lynelle Briggs Australian Public Service Commissioner Lynelle Briggs assumed the role of Public Service Commissioner in November 2004.

The Commissioner is a statutory position responsible for promoting and evaluating the implementation of the Australian Public Service Values and Code of Conduct, and for reporting on the health of the APS. She also has policy responsibilities relating to public administration and people management, particularly the promotion of leadership skills.

Ms Briggs has been with the Australian Public Service for over 25 years. Her career has involved time in the former Department of Social Security, the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, the Treasury and the then Department of Health and Aged Care. Ms Briggs was also employed by the New Zealand Treasury for two years. From June 2001 to 2004, Ms Briggs was Deputy Secretary of the Department of Transport and Regional Services. Her responsibilities included overseeing maritime, rail and road transport, territories, wider infrastructure policy such as AusLink, planning, local government and the portfolio's budget and information technology.

In her role as Australian Public Service Commissioner, she is raising the profile of the public service and highlighting the valuable work officials do to support our country, our people and the Australian Government. Ms Briggs is keen to work with others to develop the next round of public service reforms and staff development and support opportunities that will enable the Australian public service to meet the new challenges of the future.
