[ Steve Vamos]

CEO, Microsoft Australia, President, Society of Knowledge Economics.

Appointed Managing Director of Microsoft Australia in February 2003, Steve Vamos is responsible for the strategic direction and leadership of Microsoft Australia and New
Zealand.

This includes meeting the needs and challenges of Microsoft’s customers which include governments, businesses and consumers, as well as the 14,000
partners and independent software vendors who produce leading edge technology solutions for Australian businesses based on Microsoft’s platform.

As Managing Director, Steve provides strategic leadership of Microsoft’s software businesses including the desktop and server business, consulting and product support services, Microsoft Business Solutions and the Home and Entertainment Division. In addition, he leads Microsoft’s engagement with governments, businesses and community organisations.

In 2005 Steve was appointed Chairman of the Business Council of Australia’s (BCA) Education, Skills & Innovation Task Force. Under Steve’s Chairmanship the Taskforce released the 2006 research report, New Concepts in Innovation.

Additionally, 2005 saw Steve appointed as founding President of the Society for Knowledge Economics, an organisation with a mandate to improve how the contribution of knowledge based resources can be managed and measured to drive productivity and economic growth.

Before his appointment to Microsoft  Australia, Steve held the position of Chief Executive Officer of ninemsn, a joint venture between Microsoft Corporation and PBL. Steve also held the position of Managing Director of Apple Computer Australia from 1994 to 1995 and Vice President and Managing Director of Apple Computer Asia
Pacific from 1996 to 1998. He was also appointed Vice President of Apple Computer Inc in 1996. Prior to joining Apple Computer, Steve spent 14 years with IBM Australia in a number of sales, marketing and general management positions.
